Electronic Signature for Law Firms and eSignature for Lawyers
SignElectronically is eSignature software for law firms of 3 to 25 people. Paralegals send engagement letters, fee agreements and settlement papers, the client signs first on any device, the responsible attorney countersigns, and the firm keeps a sealed PDF with an audit certificate in the matter file.

The new matter
The retainer that sits unsigned for a week
A prospective client leaves the consultation on Tuesday and says they want to go ahead. The paralegal emails the engagement letter as a PDF that afternoon. The client means to print it, sign it and scan it back, and on the following Wednesday it is still in their inbox. Meanwhile the attorney cannot start billable work, and in a contingency matter the firm is exposed without a signed fee agreement.
With electronic signature the paralegal sends the letter from a template while the client is still in the parking lot. The client opens it on a phone, agrees to sign electronically, initials the scope and fee sections, signs and is done in three minutes. The attorney gets the countersign request right after, and the sealed copy with its certificate goes to both sides and to the matter folder.
The firm also gets something paper never gave it: a record of exactly when the client opened the letter, from which address, and that the scope paragraph they signed is byte for byte the one you sent.

Reminder every 2 days, expires in 10 days
Legal paperwork has an order, and the tool should enforce it rather than rely on someone remembering. Set the sequence once in the template and every letter follows it: each joint client signs separately, the responsible attorney countersigns only after the clients are done, and the billing coordinator receives the final copy without being able to change anything.
Joint representation is where paper falls apart. Spouses on an estate plan, two founders on a formation, co-plaintiffs on a contingency agreement. Each one gets a personal link and signs their own fields, so you never wonder whether one partner signed for both. The certificate lists every signer separately.
- Sequential or parallel signing per template
- Each joint client signs with their own verified link
- Automatic reminders and an expiry date
- Read only copies for billing and the matter file

The statute behind each row is explained on our ESIGN Act and UETA page, and the full list of documents that still need ink is on is an electronic signature legally binding. If you are still choosing between vendors, our best e-signature software for law firms comparison puts Clio, DocuSign, Adobe, Dropbox Sign and signNow side by side.
Evidence
What the firm can show if a client disputes the letter
Fee disputes and bar complaints tend to turn on one question: what did the client agree to, and when. An emailed PDF with a pasted signature image answers neither. A completed envelope does. The certificate shows the moment the link was sent, the moment the client opened it and consented to electronic records, the moment each signature was applied and from which IP address, and the hash that ties the certificate to this exact PDF.
Anyone can check that hash later on our public verification page by dropping in the file. If someone edits a single character of the signed letter, the check fails. That is the practical answer to a client who says the scope paragraph was different when they signed it.
Retention stays with the firm. Download every sealed PDF and certificate into your document management system or matter folder, so your file retention policy controls the record rather than a vendor subscription. The audit trail page lists every event the certificate records.

The client side
Three minutes on a phone, no account
Most clients read their email on a phone, and many of them are stressed. A divorce client, an injured plaintiff, a family settling an estate. The signing page asks for nothing they do not have: open the link, agree to sign electronically, read the letter, fill the fields you placed, sign. They get their own sealed copy by email the moment the last party signs.
Business clients get the same flow on a laptop. A general counsel can forward a commercial agreement to their CFO for the second signature without breaking the chain, because every signer is named on the envelope and recorded on the certificate. Firms that run a busy intake pipeline often automate the first conversation too, with an AI client intake assistant that qualifies the lead before the engagement letter goes out here.
- Works in any phone browser, nothing to install
- Consent to electronic records captured first
- Every party receives the sealed copy
- Email code on every plan, SMS code from Plus

What a law firm pays for eSignature
Per user pricing punishes the way small firms actually work, because the people who send documents are the paralegals and assistants, not only the attorneys. A firm with three attorneys and three staff pays for six licenses, and bulk send for annual letters usually sits on the top tier. Our plans include seats, so adding a paralegal does not change the bill.
Starter covers 3 people and 50 envelopes a month for $24 a month on yearly billing, which fits a solo attorney with two staff. Plus covers 10 people, 500 envelopes, SMS codes, webhooks and bulk send for $74 a month. A firm of up to 25 with its own practice software fits Pro, with the eSignature API and SSO, for $249 a month.
One envelope is one sending, however many people sign it, so an engagement letter signed by two clients and an attorney counts once. Clients and opposing parties never need a seat. Firms leaving DocuSign can read the same arithmetic on our DocuSign alternative page.
