Dropbox Sign alternative

HelloSign Alternative with Seats and API in One Plan

HelloSign, now Dropbox Sign, charges per user and sells its API as a separate product. A HelloSign alternative for a growing team should bundle both. SignElectronically includes 10 seats in Plus for $74 a month on yearly billing, and the API in Pro.

Monthly cost for 10 people who send

Dropbox Sign Standard, 10 users $250/mo

$25 per user per month

SignElectronically Plus, monthly billing $149/mo

10 seats included, bulk send and webhooks

SignElectronically Plus, yearly billing $74/mo

Billed as $888 yearly

Teams often start with a signing app and add an integration a year later, when the CRM or the customer portal should send documents by itself. With a separately priced API that moment brings a second product, a second quota and a second invoice.

Here the path is one line long. Webhooks arrive with Plus. The REST API and embedded signing arrive with Pro, on the same account, with the same templates and the same envelope quota.

  • Create envelopes from templates with prefilled fields
  • Embed the signing step in your own product
  • Signed webhook events for sent, viewed, signed and completed
  • One monthly envelope quota for the app and the API

For the whole office

What a seat means here

A seat is a colleague who prepares and sends documents. It is not a license you buy one at a time. Starter comes with 3, Plus with 10 and Pro with 25, and the people who sign never use one.

That changes who gets access. With a per user price, companies hand logins to two or three people and everyone else asks them for a favor. With seats in the plan, the recruiter, the office manager and the account lead each send their own documents and see their own status list.

If you are weighing several vendors, the same seat arithmetic is laid out for the market leader on our page about DocuSign alternatives.

Switch from Dropbox Sign

Six steps from the old tool to the new one

  1. 1

    Download what is signed

Export completed documents and their audit trails from Dropbox Sign and file them in your own storage. They remain valid without the subscription.

  2. 2

    Recreate your templates

Upload each PDF, place the fields and name the signer roles. Keep the same role names you used before, so colleagues recognise them.

  3. 3

    Invite the senders

Add the colleagues who send documents and give each a role. Seats are part of the plan, so nobody has to share a login.

  4. 4

    Point your integration here

If you used the API, create a key on Pro, map your template ids and register your webhook URL. Events are signed, so your endpoint can verify the sender.

  5. 5

    Run both for one cycle

Send new documents from SignElectronically and let open requests finish in the old tool. Cancel it once nothing is pending.

  6. 6

    Check the first sealed PDF

Open the completed file in a PDF reader, look at the signature panel and confirm the same file on the verify page.

Reasonable worries

Three objections worth answering

HelloSign is simple and we like that

Simplicity is the right thing to protect. The editor here is one screen, with the field palette on the left and the page in the middle. Try it on the homepage and judge it against what you use today.

We only have four users

Four users on Standard are $100 a month at list price. Plus is $74 a month on yearly billing with room for six more people, and Starter at $24 fits if three of you send.

Rewriting an integration is work

It is, and it is bounded work. Most integrations make one call to create a signature request and listen for one completion event. Both have a direct counterpart here, and the electronic signature audit trail is fetched with the sealed PDF.

Questions

HelloSign alternative FAQ

Yes. HelloSign was renamed Dropbox Sign after Dropbox bought the company. Many people still search for the old name, which is why this page uses both.
